Board-certified Dental Implant Specialists

Beacon Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons in The Dalles, OR, offer excellent oral surgery services and tooth replacement options. Dental implants are one of the most popular tooth restoration options because they are natural looking, permanent, and practical. They have no removable parts, making them the most similar replacement option to your natural teeth. In fact, most patients find that they can hardly tell the difference between their implants and their normal teeth.

Learn About What Dental Implants Are

American Society of Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry (ASIRD)

Our practice was chosen to be a member of the American Society of Implant and Reconstructive Dentistry (ASIRD) because of our surgeons’ high standards of patient care. We work together with your dentist to form patient-centered treatment plans, and we perform a high volume of dental implant procedures every year, making us more experienced and qualified than a non-ASIRD practice might be. Benefits of Dental Implants in The Dalles, OR

Types of Dental Implants

  • Single Dental Implants. One full replacement for an entire tooth.
  • Immediate Implants. Implant posts are placed the same day as a tooth extraction, decreasing the number of appointments needed to replace the missing tooth.
  • Implant-Supported Bridge. Dental implants can support the bridge where multiple teeth are missing beside each other. This option allows patients to preserve their healthy teeth without the need to grind them down to fit the bridge.
  • DIEM® Full-Arch Restoration. Dental implant posts are inserted to support a fixed denture in the upper and lower arches, fully restoring the smile and oral function.

Dental Implant Surgery Procedure

The process of receiving dental implants usually involves two or three visits to the office, where your oral surgeon and dentist will work together to complete the procedure.

First, you will have a consultation and oral examination, where your oral surgeon will review your oral health situation and form a treatment plan. Your oral surgeon may also take 3D imaging of your mouth, allowing your surgeon to visualize important structures and nerves before your procedure. These 3D images can also be used to create custom surgical guides to streamline the entire process. Anesthesia and sedation options will also be explained to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.

On the day of your procedure, your surgeon will administer your anesthesia, ensuring that you feel no pain during surgery. Your surgeon will place the posts into the bone beneath your gums. Once the procedure is complete, your designated driver can bring you home to rest. Patients must undergo a healing period of several weeks to a few months before they can fully chew with their new replacement teeth, but the vast majority of people find that having permanent replacement teeth is well worth the wait. Your dentist may be able to make a temporary prosthesis for you to wear during the recovery period.

Cost and Value of Dental Implants

Traditional dentures cost less upfront, but they must be replaced every 5 years and do not prevent jaw bone deterioration. Dental implants, however, remain in your mouth at all times and are cleaned with regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits. They have a high success rate and can last a lifetime with proper care.

The cost of your dental implant depends on how many you need, your insurance, your choice of anesthesia, and if you require additional procedures. We discuss all of this with you during the initial visit.

Denture Replacement With Dental Implants

While dentures or bridges can be a quick, non-invasive fix for tooth loss, these options do not fully restore functionality or prevent jaw bone atrophy. Dental implants are an excellent alternative to dentures or bridges, and they fuse to the jaw bone to prevent bone loss. Many patients who choose traditional dentures often turn to dental implants because they are more convenient, comfortable, and longer-lasting.

Full-arch restoration is a treatment that uses multiple implant posts to secure a fixed denture. You can undergo this treatment in one or both dental arches for a complete smile makeover. Your new teeth will look, feel, and function just like healthy, adult teeth. Contact our office to learn more about your options for denture replacement in The Dalles, OR.

Types of Anesthesia

We offer several options for anesthesia to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

"My name is Tara. I live in Vancouver, Washington. I’m a patient of Dr. Rehrer’s. I needed three surgical implants and a bone graft. My teeth were shifting, and I needed to replace those teeth that were missing. I had my first surgical implant and a bone graft. I was sedated for that. The surgery went well. Before I knew it, I woke up. They sent me home on my way. The very next day, I never really even needed any pain medication. I took Ibuprofen for swelling, but other than that, I healed very nicely and quickly. The second time around, I had two more surgical implants. Same thing, but I was not sedated the second time. I chose to stay awake. Easy surgery, probably done in about an hour. Same thing – went home, no pain medication really needed the next day, healed up very nicely. I like Dr. Rehrer. His personality, his staff is very nice, he’s very good at what he does, very efficient, and I could say he’s fast, too. He definitely knows what he’s doing. He’s in and out and takes care of you very well."

"Hi, my name is Cathy, and I'm from Hood River. My doctor in Hood River examined me and determined that I had a fractured root and that the tooth would need to be extracted. The procedure I had done with Dr. Lieblick was first an extraction of my tooth, and then several months later, I had the dental implant — the post — implanted. The implant process itself was quite easy. Recovery process was very, well, unremarkable. I was very happy with everything. Everything had been explained to me by Dr. Lieblick and his staff. The staff in Dr. Lieblick's office was top notch in my opinion, and I've worked in a medical office for 23 years. They were very sweet and made me feel very comfortable. Dr. Lieblick has a wonderful chairside manner. He's very sweet, he's very kind, answers any questions. Was a wonderful overall experience. I would have all of my friends come and see Dr. Lieblick."

When I first walked into the office, the girls up front that greeted me were very warm and welcoming. The doctors here are very knowledgeable. They really know what they're doing and made me feel at ease. My procedure here went very smoothly and a quick recovery. It feels really great to be able to smile and being very comfortable, um, with my overall oral health. I had a fantastic experience. They take such good care of me and I highly recommend Beacon Oral Surgeons."

"Hello, I'm Eileen; I'm from Moro, Oregon, and I am one of Dr. Lieblick's patients. I had had previous dental implants, and they failed, and then Dr. Lieblick took me on as a patient, and so I am still seeing him. He has tremendous rapport with his staff. The staff — these women — they're always playing jokes. I like the staff very, very much, but I'm not sure I should ever tell them that. Dr. Lieblick is a professional, but he also has this inner glow about him, and all of them just think that he's the greatest thing, and so do I."

Frequently Asked Questions

Does food get under implants?

Dental Implants are a permanent tooth replacement option that allows you to care for them just like natural teeth. You can brush, and floss daily to keep your mouth clean and healthy.

Who is not suitable for dental implants?

Patients who have suppressed immune systems or severe bone loss may not be candidates for a dental implant. It is likely that if you are healthy enough to undergo a general surgery procedure, you are healthy enough to receive a dental implant.

Do all dental implants need bone grafts?

Bone grafting is not always necessary for dental implant placement. If your oral surgeon decides that there is a need for a bone graft it is because it can significantly improve a positive treatment outcome.

How painful is getting a dental implant?

During your initial visit anesthesia and sedation options will be discussed to ensure that you are comfortable during your procedure. Dental implant surgery usually causes minimal discomfort that is controlled with over the counter pain medication.
