Types of Dental Implants
- Single Dental Implants. One full replacement for an entire tooth.
- Immediate Implants. Implant posts are placed the same day as a tooth extraction, decreasing the number of appointments needed to replace the missing tooth.
- Implant-Supported Bridge. Dental implants can support the bridge where multiple teeth are missing beside each other. This option allows patients to preserve their healthy teeth without the need to grind them down to fit the bridge.
- DIEM® Full-Arch Restoration. Dental implant posts are inserted to support a fixed denture in the upper and lower arches, fully restoring the smile and oral function.

PODCAST
Dental Implants: Restoring Smiles with Precision and Purpose
In this episode of Oral Surgery Insights, we explore one of the most transformative advancements in modern oral surgery—dental implants. We break down the science, process, and life-changing benefits of implant therapy. From explaining what a dental implant is and how it integrates with the jawbone, to who makes a great candidate and how bone grafting can expand eligibility, this episode offers a comprehensive, easy-to-understand guide for anyone considering tooth replacement options.
Dental Implant Surgery Procedure
The process of receiving dental implants usually involves two or three visits to the office, where your oral surgeon and dentist will work together to complete the procedure.
First, you will have a consultation and oral examination, where your oral surgeon will review your oral health situation and form a treatment plan. Your oral surgeon may also take 3D imaging of your mouth, allowing your surgeon to visualize important structures and nerves before your procedure. These 3D images can also be used to create custom surgical guides to streamline the entire process. Anesthesia and sedation options will also be explained to make sure you are relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.
On the day of your procedure, your surgeon will administer your anesthesia, ensuring that you feel no pain during surgery. Your surgeon will place the posts into the bone beneath your gums. Once the procedure is complete, your designated driver can bring you home to rest. Patients must undergo a healing period of several weeks to a few months before they can fully chew with their new replacement teeth, but the vast majority of people find that having permanent replacement teeth is well worth the wait. Your dentist may be able to make a temporary prosthesis for you to wear during the recovery period.
Cost and Value of Dental Implants
Traditional dentures cost less upfront, but they must be replaced every 5 years and do not prevent jaw bone deterioration. Dental implants, however, remain in your mouth at all times and are cleaned with regular brushing, flossing, and dental visits. They have a high success rate and can last a lifetime with proper care.
The cost of your dental implant depends on how many you need, your insurance, your choice of anesthesia, and if you require additional procedures. We discuss all of this with you during the initial visit.
Denture Replacement With Dental Implants
While dentures or bridges can be a quick, non-invasive fix for tooth loss, these options do not fully restore functionality or prevent jaw bone atrophy. Dental implants are an excellent alternative to dentures or bridges, and they fuse to the jaw bone to prevent bone loss. Many patients who choose traditional dentures often turn to dental implants because they are more convenient, comfortable, and longer-lasting.
Full-arch restoration is a treatment that uses multiple implant posts to secure a fixed denture. You can undergo this treatment in one or both dental arches for a complete smile makeover. Your new teeth will look, feel, and function just like healthy, adult teeth. Contact our office to learn more about your options for denture replacement in The Dalles, OR.
Types of Anesthesia
We offer several options for anesthesia to make your experience as comfortable as possible.

Reviews From Our Dental Implant Patients
"My name is Tara. I live in Vancouver, Washington. I’m a patient of Dr. Rehrer’s. I needed three surgical implants and a bone graft. My teeth were shifting, and I needed to replace those teeth that were missing. I had my first surgical implant and a bone graft. I was sedated for that. The surgery went well. Before I knew it, I woke up. They sent me home on my way. The very next day, I never really even needed any pain medication. I took Ibuprofen for swelling, but other than that, I healed very nicely and quickly. The second time around, I had two more surgical implants. Same thing, but I was not sedated the second time. I chose to stay awake. Easy surgery, probably done in about an hour. Same thing – went home, no pain medication really needed the next day, healed up very nicely. I like Dr. Rehrer. His personality, his staff is very nice, he’s very good at what he does, very efficient, and I could say he’s fast, too. He definitely knows what he’s doing. He’s in and out and takes care of you very well."
"My name is Andrea, and I'm from the Dalles, Oregon. I went to Beacon Oral Surgeons because I needed an implant done. I actually had had a tooth that I'd had a root canal done on at one point in time, and I had some problems with that, and I ended up needing an implant. I was nervous about the whole procedure. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, and any surgery is always a little scary for people. The staff at Beacon was great. Dr. Rehrer was great. They were very welcoming; they had a great sense of humor, all of them. It was really easy for me to walk in there and feel comfortable. The procedure went really well. I was actually quite amazed at how quick and simple it was and really painless, so I didn't expect that, but that was a nice surprise. I would definitely recommend Beacon. If you're concerned or nervous about the procedure, they really will put you at ease, and it's a great place to go."
"Hi, my name is Rick, and I live in Milwaukie, Oregon. I came to Beacon Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery because I had some issues with my teeth. It kind of surprised me, but they came highly recommended. I had my first one about three years ago. Dr. Wendell, who’s now retired, and I’m in the middle of one right now. They put it in about two months ago, and I’ve got to wait another two months, and I’ll be ready to go. It was pretty much seamless. It was one of the easiest procedures I ever went through. They knocked me out, I woke up, and I went home. I didn’t even have to take pain killers. I had the procedure done at 9 o’clock in the morning, and by 4 o’clock, I had no pain. It’s just that simple. If anybody asked me, I’d highly recommend them. They have offices in Gresham and Milwaukie, and I had the procedure done, one here in Gresham and one in Milwaukie, and the whole staff is great. They treat you really good and make it as good as it can be. Dr. Lieblick was pretty much straight forward, to the point, and no messing around. He told me that this was a pretty common one. The first one I had was very difficult. In fact, I’ll even show it to you. It’s right here in front, but the other one is a molar and he said it’d be a piece of cake, and it was. I couldn’t be happier."
"Hi, my name is Candice. I'm from Rhododendron, Oregon, and I came to Beacon Oral Surgery for a dental implant. The office was very comfortable when I first walked in. The staff was very nice, very welcoming. The doctor here was very personable. He was full of a lot of energy, and he's really confident, and just make you feel very comfortable. The procedure went great. My recovery was easy. Actually, the next day, I was delivered a bouquet of flowers from the office, so I was very surprised. It was—it was phenomenal, so I will definitely come back if I need some more work. For all my friends and family, and Sandy and Welch's, I highly recommend Beacon Oral Surgeons."
"Hi, my name is Byron Valentine. I came to Beacon Oral Surgery on a referral, which I’m truly grateful for. My dentist, Dr. Reflaf, referred me, and I’ve never been happier. I was delighted! When you associate oral surgery with your person, you think about pain, and immediately, that’s what I thought about was pain, but upon arriving, meeting the staff, meeting the oral surgeons, I was greatly impressed. They dispelled any fears I had, they walked me through the process, they told me point by point exactly what was going to happen, and how it was going to affect me in terms of my overall ability to chew, my smile, just my comfort level. I was, like I said, superbly satisfied, very happy. I’m extremely happy I came here, and not to mention, the staff is like a family. I was so taken by the professionalism and just the approach that the ladies that work there took when I walked in the door, and the whole time that I was sitting in the chair, getting ready to undergo the surgery, they made me feel like I wasn’t even in a dentistry office, like we were at a bonfire! The only thing that was missing was the beer and popcorn! I’m impressed. I’m really impressed, and I would tell anybody, if you’ve got to go have oral surgery, go to Beacon."
